This is what it takes to fulfill your dream of becoming an Chartered Account.
With your O’level, OND or NCE and our support and guidance, you can become a chartered accountant in less than 3 years. With BSc or HND in any discipline, you can qualify within a year and six months or less.
ATS
ATS is the level from where candidates with any of the following qualifications can join ICAN:
WAEC, SSCE, OND, NCE etc.
The ICAN organises ATS exams in March and September every year. ATS students start with the level that corresponds with their qualifications, example; SSCE holder starts at ATS1 while OND Accounting holder starts at ATS3.
When a student passes the final ATS3 exam, he is issued an AAT certificate by ICAN after induction. The AAT certificate entitles the student to do all or any of the following:
1. Get a job in a company as an accounts assistant.
2. Get admission to study Accounting from 200 level in most universities.
3. Proceed to the Skills level of ICAN exams where the candidate takes only 4 subjects and rated higher than Accounting degree holders who take 5 subjects at the same level.

4. Communication Skills
ATS2 (4 subjects):
1. Financial Accounting
2. Quantitative Analysis
3. Public Sector Accounting
4. Information Technology
ATS3 (4 subjects):
1. Taxation
2. Principles of Audit and Assurance
3. Cost Accounting
4. Management
Professional
This comprises three levels with their corresponding number of subjects.
Graduates start ICAN examination from any of the three Professional levels depending on their course of study. Accounting graduates are exempted from all foundation subjects and so start with 5 subjects at Skills level while non-accounting graduates start from Foundation with different number of subjects depending on their courses.
The Institute conducts exams for Professional students in May and November every year.
