ICAN is the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a leading global professional accountancy body on a mission to produce world-class Chartered Accountants, regulate and continually enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest. You are about to become a member of the prestigious professional body, ICAN.
With O’level you can become a chartered accountant within 3 years or less by enrolling with ICAN through the ATS Programme designed for students with any of the following qualifications: WAEC, NECO, OND, NCE.
With a degree in science or any course apart from accounting, you can become a chartered accountant within 6 months by writing just 3 levels of ICAN exam. ICAN professional exams are written twice a year, May and November, giving you the opportunity to write two levels within a year and the Final level the following year.
The time it takes to complete the ICAN exam depends on your qualification, course studied, school attended and finally, your success rate in the exam.
Accounting graduates from schools that have MCATI arrangements with ICAN write only one stage, Professionals and this can take 6 months. Accounting graduates from other ICAN accredited schools write 2 stages of the exam, skills and professionals which will take one year. Graduates of non-accounting courses write 3 stages of the Institute’s exams, with chances of completing the programme within a year and six months.
O’level, OND and NCE holders spend between a year and six moths, and 3 years to complete the ICAN examinations.

ICAN examinations are written at specific centres across the 36 states in Nigeria and the FCT, Abuja. The details are on ICAN website www.icanig.org.
